18 Years Ago Today

I just realized today is the anniversary of the day I took delivery of my 1987 Mustang GT! February 28, 1987. That year was the first year of this design. My Mustang was one of the first 1987 models in New England. It was probably 6 months before I started seeing them regularly. It was a really amazing feeling to drive a car that was nearly unique for several months.

That car will probably always be the one I think of most fondly. It was my first new car and I did a lot of growing up when I had it. I bought it when I was 22. During the time I owned it, I moved out of my parents house and got an apartment by myself. I got married. I was laid off twice. In 1990, after having it for nearly 4 years and putting 60,000 miles on it, I sold it so I could go back to college.
When I walked away from it that last time, my eyes were pretty misty. I saw it one time about a year after that.
I've always wondered what ever happened to it. It would be nice to think that it made it past the junkyard and was maybe restored and is now someone's pride and joy. I would die if I ever saw it at a car show.

I can't believe 18 years has gone by. Amazing what $11,700 could buy you back then. I must be old.
